Indications: Pramax (Pantoprazole) is indicated for the treatment of acid-related disorders, including:

• Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptomatic relief and healing of erosive esophagitis.
• Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis and reduction of relapse rates of heartburn symptoms in patients with GERD.
• Gastric ulcer.
• Duodenal ulcer.
• Eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection (in combination with appropriate antibiotics).
• Prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers in patients at risk who require continued NSAID therapy.
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other pathological hypersecretory conditions.

Dosage and Administration: Pramax 20 tablets should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed or crushed. It is recommended to take Pramax on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes to one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dosage will vary depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

• GERD: The usual dose is 20 mg or 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. For maintenance therapy, 20 mg once daily may be used.
• Gastric Ulcer: The usual dose is 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks.
• Duodenal Ulcer: The usual dose is 40 mg once daily for 2 to 4 weeks.
• H. pylori Eradication: Pramax 20 mg is typically given twice daily (or 40 mg twice daily depending on the regimen) in combination with specific antibiotics for a duration determined by the physician.
• Prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers: 20 mg once daily.
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: The starting dose is usually 80 mg once daily, adjusted based on acid secretion. Lower doses may be used initially in some patients.

Side Effects: Pramax (Pantoprazole) is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache and diarrhea. Less frequently reported side effects are abdominal pain, flatulence, rash, sleeplessness, and hyperglycemia. Long-term use may potentially lead to vitamin B12 deficiency or an increased risk of bone fractures in some individuals.

Precautions: Pramax (Pantoprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or any other components of the formulation. Exercise caution in patients with severe liver disease and during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor before use. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as Pantoprazole can interact with certain drugs. When gastric ulcer is suspected, the possibility of gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy. Patients should be advised not to split, chew, or crush the tablet.
