Pramin 25

Presentation: Each tablet contains Imipramine Hydrochloride BP 25 mg.

Indications: Pramin is indicated for the treatment of depressive illness and nocturnal enuresis in children (for children aged 7 years and above).

Dosage & Administration:

• Depression: Initially, up to 75 mg daily in divided doses, gradually increased to 150-200 mg daily (up to 300 mg in hospitalized patients). Up to 150 mg may be given as a single dose at bedtime. For elderly patients, the initial dose is 10 mg daily, gradually increased to 30-50 mg daily. Pramin is not recommended for the treatment of depression in children.
• Nocturnal Enuresis (Children):
  • 7-8 years: 25 mg at bedtime.
  • 8-11 years: 25-50 mg at bedtime.
  • Over 11 years: 50-75 mg at bedtime. The maximum period of treatment, including gradual withdrawal, is 3 months. A full physical examination is required before further courses of treatment.
• Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: The most frequent side effects include dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision (disturbances of accommodation, increased intraocular pressure), difficulty with micturition, increased heart rate, sedation, and dizziness.

Precautions: Pramin should be used with caution in patients with cardiac diseases (particularly with arrhythmias), a history of epilepsy, the elderly, hepatic impairment (avoid if severe), thyroid disease, psychoses, angle-closure glaucoma, a history of urinary retention, and those undergoing concurrent electro-convulsive therapy. It should not be used in patients during the acute recovery phase following myocardial infarction or in those with arrhythmias (particularly heart block) or severe liver disease.

Drug Interactions: Pramin should not be used in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). It may increase the depressant action of alcohol. Anticholinergic effects may be additive with other anticholinergic drugs. Methylphenidate may increase the effects of imipramine.

Storage: Keep below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
