Pregaba 150

Generic Name: Pregabalin

Strength: 150 mg

Dosage Form: Capsule

Indication:

Pregaba is indicated for the treatment of neuropathic pain (nerve pain) associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (pain following shingles), and spinal cord injury.1It is also used as adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures in adults and for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Pregabalin works by modulating calcium channels in nerve cells, which helps to reduce the release of neurotransmitters involved in pain signaling and seizure activity.

Dosage and Administration:

The dosage of Pregaba varies depending on the condition being treated and the individual patient's response.

For neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, or spinal cord injury, the starting dose is usually 150 mg per day, given in two or three divided doses. The dose may be increased gradually over 1 week to a maximum dose of 300 mg per day. Based on individual patient response and tolerability, the dose may be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day.

For adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures, the starting dose is usually 150 mg per day, given in two or three divided doses. The dose may be increased gradually weekly to a maximum recommended dose of 600 mg per day.

For fibromyalgia, the recommended dose range is 300 to 450 mg per day. Dosing should begin at 75 mg twice daily (150 mg/day) and may be increased to 150 mg twice daily (300 mg/day) within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability. Patients who do not experience sufficient benefit2at 300 mg/day may be further increased to 225 mg twice daily (450 mg/day).

Pregaba capsules should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully3regarding the dosage and timing of administration.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, weight gain, peripheral edema (swelling of the hands and feet), and difficulty concentrating.

Less common but potentially serious side effects can include mood changes, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing), and angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat).

Precautions:

Pregaba should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in these individuals.

It may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so patients should exercise caution while driving or operating machinery until they know how this medication affects them.

Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart failure or any other significant medical conditions.

The use of Pregaba during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be discussed with a doctor, as it may have potential risks to the fetus or infant.

Drug Interactions:

Pregaba can interact with other medications, including opioids (which may increase the risk of drowsiness and constipation), and certain medications for high blood pressure. It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugsand herbal supplements, to avoid potentialdrug interactions.
