What is Prelica CR 165 used for?

Prelica CR 165 is indicated for:

• Neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN)

• Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN)

How does Pregabalin work?

Pregabalin, the active ingredient in Prelica CR 165, is a structural derivative of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It works by binding to the α2δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This binding reduces calcium influx and neurotransmitter release, which helps to alleviate neuropathic pain.

Dosage and administration

• Prelica CR 165 is taken orally, usually once daily.

• It should be swallowed whole and should not be split, crushed, or chewed.

• The tablet should be administered after an evening meal.

• If a dose is missed after the evening meal, it should be taken prior to bedtime following a snack. If the dose is missed prior to bedtime, it should be taken following a morning meal.

Side effects

Precautions

• Visual effects: Prelica CR 165 may cause blurred vision or loss of vision. Patients should be advised to inform their doctor immediately if they experience any changes in vision.

• Suicidal thoughts and behavior: Antiepileptic drugs, including Prelica CR 165, may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior. Patients should be monitored for any unusual changes in mood or behavior.

• Respiratory depression: Respiratory depression may occur when Prelica CR 165 is used with other CNS depressants or in patients with underlying respiratory impairment.

• Withdrawal effects: Increased seizure frequency and other adverse reactions may occur if Prelica CR 165 is abruptly discontinued. It should be withdrawn gradually over a minimum of 1 week.

• Peripheral edema: Prelica CR 165 may cause peripheral edema. Caution should be exercised when it is coadministered with thiazolidinedione antidiabetic agents.
