Premarin Cream

Presentation:Each gram of Premarin Vaginal Cream contains 0.625 mg conjugated estrogens, USP, in a nonliquefying base. 

Indications: Premarin Vaginal Cream is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Atrophic vaginitis and kraurosis vulvae associated with estrogen deficiency. 
  • Moderate to severe dyspareunia (painful intercourse), a symptom of vulvar and vaginal atrophy, due to menopause.  

Dosage and Administration:The dosage is individualized and should be prescribed for the shortest duration consistent with treatment goals.  

  • For the treatment of atrophic vaginitis and kraurosis vulvae, the usual dosage is 0.5 g to 2 g intravaginally, daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day off period.
  • For the treatment of moderate to severe dyspareunia due to menopause, the usual dosage is 0.5 g intravaginally, twice weekly or daily for 21 days followed by a 7-day off period.

The cream should be administered intravaginally using the applicator provided.Follow the instructions provided with the product.

Side Effects:Systemic absorption of estrogen can occur with the use of Premarin Vaginal Cream, and therefore, side effects similar to those of oral estrogens should be considered.  

Common side effects may include: headache, breast pain, irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting, stomach/abdominal cramps/bloating, nausea and vomiting, hair loss, fluid retention,vaginal yeast infection, andlocal reactions such as vaginal burning, irritation, and itching.  

Serious but less common side effects may include: heart attack, stroke, blood clots, dementia, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, gallbladder disease, liver problems, and severe allergic reactions.  

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have or have had: unusual vaginal bleeding, cancer (especially breast or uterine), blood clots, stroke, heart attack, liver disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Estrogens should not be used to prevent heart disease or dementia.
  • Increased risk of endometrial cancer has been reported with the use of unopposed estrogens in women with a uterus. The addition of a progestin may help reduce this risk.
  • Increased risk of breast cancer, stroke, and blood clots has been associated with estrogen therapy.
  • Premarin Vaginal Cream may affect the integrity of latex condoms, cervical caps, and diaphragms. 
  • Regular breast exams and mammograms are recommended.

Storage:Store at room temperature, between 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F), with excursions permitted to 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).Keep out of reach of children.
