Pride 1

Presentation:

Pride 1 is available as tablets containing 1 mg of glimepiride for oral administration. The tablets may have specific colors or markings as detailed on the product packaging.

Indications:

Pride 1 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapy or in combinationwith other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin.

Dosage and Administration:

The usual starting dose of glimepiride is 1 mg once daily. The dosage may be increased gradually based on the patient's blood glucose response, typically at intervals of one to two weeks. The maximum recommended daily dose is usually 8 mg. Pride 1 tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably with the first main meal of the day. It is important to take the medication at the same time each day. The dosage should be determined and adjusted by a healthcare professional according to individual patient needs and blood glucose monitoring.

Side Effects:

The most common side effect associated with glimepiride is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can occur due to missed meals, strenuous exercise, or when used with other hypoglycemic agents. Symptoms may include sweating, dizziness, confusion, tremor, hunger, and palpitations.

Other possible side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation. Skin reactions like rash, itching, and urticaria have also been reported. Less common side effects may involve changes in blood counts or liver function.

Precautions:

Before taking Pride 1, inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially kidney or liver problems, and any allergies. Caution should be exercised in elderly or debilitated patients and those with irregular eating habits, as they may be at higher risk of hypoglycemia.

Pride 1 is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, and severe renal or hepatic impairment.It is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.  

Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, andherbal supplements, as they may interact with glimepiride, affecting blood glucose control or increasing the risk of side effects. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential during treatment.

Storage:

Store Pride 1 tablets below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep the medication out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date mentioned on the packaging.
