Presentation: Each tablet contains Glimepiride INN 3 mg. Available in strips.
Indications: Pride is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not sufficient to control blood glucose levels. It may be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or with insulin.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Glimepiride must be adjusted based on blood glucose measurements. The usual starting dose is 1 mg once daily. If necessary, the daily dose can be increased gradually, usually at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks, in steps of 1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg, or even 4 mg, up to a maximum daily dose of 8 mg. The tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid and should be taken shortly before or with the first main meal of the day. It is important not to skip meals after taking Pride.
In patients with well-controlled diabetes, the maintenance dose is usually 1 to 4 mg daily. Higher doses may be necessary in some individuals. Dosage adjustments may also be required if there are changes in the patient's weight, lifestyle, or other factors that may affect blood glucose control.
Side Effects: The most frequent side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Possible symptoms include headache, increased hunger, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sleep disturbances, restlessness, aggressiveness, impaired concentration, alertness, and reactions, depression, confusion, speech and visual disturbances, tremor, dizziness, and weakness. Signs of adrenergic counter-regulation such as sweating, clammy skin, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, palpitations, and angina pectoris may also occur. Gastrointestinal disturbances like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are uncommon. Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, and hives may occur. Rarely, changes in blood counts and liver function abnormalities have been reported.
Precautions: Pride is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, and known hypersensitivity to glimepiride or other sulfonylureas. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for hypoglycemia, such as elderly patients, malnourished individuals, or those with impaired adrenal or pituitary function. Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Certain medications can interact with glimepiride, potentially increasing or decreasing its blood sugar-lowering effect. Regular blood glucose monitoring is essential.
Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
