Progest 10

Presentation: Each tablet typically contains 10 mg of dydrogesterone. Progest 10 tablets are [shape and color will vary by manufacturer, often white or off-white and round or oval] and may be scored on one side.

Indications: Progest 10 is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to progesterone deficiency in women, including:

• Threatened miscarriage
• Habitual (recurrent) miscarriage
• Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)
• Endometriosis
• Secondary amenorrhea (absence of menstruation)
• Irregular cycles
• Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
• Infertility due to luteal insufficiency
• Luteal support as part of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatment
• Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to counteract the effects of estrogen on the endometrium in postmenopausal women with an intact uterus.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Progest 10 varies depending on the condition being treated and should be strictly followed as prescribed by your doctor. The tablets are for oral administration and should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of liquid. The timing of the dose may also vary depending on the indication. For example:

• Threatened miscarriage: Usually 40 mg as a single dose, then 10 mg every eight hours until symptoms remit.
• Habitual miscarriage: Usually 10 mg twice daily until the twentieth week of pregnancy.
• Dysmenorrhea: Usually 10 mg twice daily from day 5 to day 25 of the menstrual cycle.
• Endometriosis: Usually 10 mg two or three times daily from day 5 to day 25 of the cycle or continuously.
• Secondary amenorrhea: An estrogen once daily from day 1 to day 25 of the cycle, together with 10 mg Progest twice daily from day 11 to day 25 of the cycle.  
• Irregular cycles:  Usually 10 mg twice daily from day 11 to day 25 of the cycle.
• Infertility due to luteal insufficiency: Usually 10 mg daily from day 14 to day 25 of the cycle. The treatment should be continued for at least six consecutive cycles.
• HRT: In combination with continuous estrogen therapy, usually 10 mg Progest daily for 14 consecutive days of a 28-day cycle. In combination with cyclical estrogen therapy, usually 10 mg Progest daily during the last 12 to 14 days of estrogen therapy.
• Luteal support in ART: Usually 10 mg three times daily starting at the day of oocyte retrieval and continuing for 10 weeks if pregnancy is confirmed.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include headache, nausea, and menstrual disorders (e.g., changes in bleeding patterns). Less common side effects can include migraine, dizziness, vomiting, abdominal pain, breast tenderness, and allergic reactions (e.g., skin rash, itching).

Precautions: Progest 10 is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dydrogesterone or any of the excipients and in cases of known or suspected progestogen-dependent neoplasms (e.g., meningioma). Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of thromboembolic disorders. The etiology of irregular bleeding should be determined prior to starting Progest 10 treatment.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
