Prolert 20 

Presentation: Prolert 20 Capsule, contains Fluoxetine Hydrochloride equivalent to Fluoxetine 20 mg.

Indications: Prolert is indicated for the treatment of:

• Major Depressive Disorder: To relieve symptoms of depression.
• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): To reduce the frequency and impact of obsessions and compulsions.
• Bulimia Nervosa: As part of a comprehensive treatment plan to reduce binge eating and purging behaviors.
• Panic Disorder: To decrease the frequency and severity of panic attacks.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Prolert should be individualized based on the patient's condition and response to treatment. It is administered orally once daily, usually in the morning.

• Depression: The recommended starting dose for adults is typically 20 mg per day. The dose may be increased gradually by the physician, with a maximum recommended dose of 80 mg per day.
• OCD: The recommended starting dose for adults is 20 mg per day. The dose may be increased gradually by the physician, with a maximum recommended dose of 60 mg per day.
• Bulimia Nervosa: The recommended dose is 60 mg per day, administered once daily.
• Panic Disorder: The initial dose is usually 10 mg per day, which may be increased by the physician to 20 mg per day after one week. The dose may be further increased gradually, with a maximum recommended dose of 60 mg per day.
• It may take several weeks for the full antidepressant or anti-obsessive effects to be observed.
• Prolert can be taken with or without food.
• Do not stop taking Prolert suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this may lead to withdrawal symptoms. The dose should be tapered gradually under medical supervision.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Insomnia or drowsiness
• Anxiety or nervousness
• Dizziness
• Increased sweating
• Loss of appetite
• Fatigue
• Tremor

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. Patients should report any unusual or severe symptoms to their doctor immediately. These may include changes in mood or behavior, suicidal thoughts, agitation, panic attacks, aggression, or allergic reactions.

Precautions: Prolert is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fluoxetine or any of the excipients. It should not be used in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI.Allow at least 5 weeks after stopping fluoxetine before starting an MAOI.

Caution should be exercised in patients with:

• A history of seizures or epilepsy.
• Bipolar disorder or a history of mania.
• Liver or kidney problems.
• Heart problems.
• Diabetes mellitus (as it may affect blood sugar control).
• A history of bleeding disorders or concomitant use of medications that affect blood clotting.
• Pregnancy or breastfeeding (use should be carefully considered and only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus or infant).
• Glaucoma.

Patients should be monitored for the emergence or worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts, or unusual changes in behavior.

Storage: Store Prolert 20 Capsules in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
