Queta 50 XR

Presentation: Each extended-release tablet contains 50 mg of Quetiapine (as Quetiapine Fumarate). 

• Schizophrenia
• Bipolar disorder, including:
  • Treatment of depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder
  • Treatment of manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder
  • Maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder
• Adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD)

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage must be individualized by the treating physician.
• Queta XR tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed, divided, or crushed.
• It should be taken once daily, without food or with a light meal (approximately 300 calories).
• Schizophrenia: The usual starting dose is 300 mg on Day 1, 600 mg on Day 2, and up to 800 mg daily by Day 4. Further dosage adjustments should be based on clinical response and tolerability, usually within the range of 400-800 mg daily.
• Bipolar Depression: The usual starting dose is 50 mg on Day 1, 100 mg on Day 2, 200 mg on Day 3, and 300 mg on Day 4. The recommended dose range is 300-600 mg daily.
• Bipolar Mania: The usual starting dose is 300 mg on Day 1, 600 mg on Day 2, and the dose can be further increased to 800 mg daily by Day 3. The usual dose range is 400-800 mg daily.
• Maintenance Treatment of Bipolar I Disorder: Patients who have responded to Queta XR for acute mania or mixed episodes should continue therapy at the lowest effective dose.
• Adjunctive Treatment of MDD: The starting dose is 50 mg once daily, administered at bedtime. The dose can be increased in 50 mg increments, usually to 150-300 mg daily.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Increased appetite
• Weight gain
• Increased triglycerides and cholesterol
• Constipation
• Orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure upon standing)

Less common but potentially serious side effects may include tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements), neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), and cataracts.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, seizures, diabetes, high cholesterol, liver disease, or cataracts.
• Use with caution in elderly patients.
• Queta XR may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery.
• Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Queta XR, as it can increase drowsiness.
• Quetiapine can interact with many other medications. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation of Queta XR, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms. The dosage should be tapered gradually under medical supervision.
• The safety of Queta XR during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use.
• Quetiapine passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended while taking Queta XR.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
