Qutap 100 Tablet

Presentation:

Each film-coated tablet contains 100 mg of Quetiapine Fumarate INN equivalent to 100 mg of Quetiapine.

Qutap is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Acute and chronic psychoses, including schizophrenia.
  • Manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder.
  • Depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder.
  • Maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder in combination with mood stabilizers.

Dosage and Administration:

The dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and the individual patient's response and tolerability. It is usually administered twice daily, with or without food. The total daily dose for the first four days of therapy for schizophrenia is typically 50 mg (Day 1), 100 mg (Day 2), 200 mg (Day 3), and 300 mg (Day 4). From Day 4 onwards, the dose is usually titrated to the effective range of 300-450 mg/day, but may range from 150 to 750 mg/day. For manic episodes, the initial dose is higher, and for depressive episodes, it's usually administered once daily at bedtime. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

Side Effects:

The most commonly reported adverse drug reactions with Qutap include:

  • Somnolence (drowsiness)
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Withdrawal (discontinuation) symptoms
  • Elevations in serum triglyceride levels
  • Elevations in total cholesterol (predominantly LDL cholesterol)
  • Decreases in HDL cholesterol
  • Weight gain
  • Decreased hemoglobin
  • Extrapyramidal symptoms

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It's important to consult with your doctor about any unusual symptoms.

Precautions:

  • Use with caution in patients with known cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, or other conditions predisposing to hypotension.
  • May induce orthostatic hypotension, especially during the initial dose-titration period.
  • Caution is recommended in patients with a history of seizures.
  • If signs and symptoms of tardive dyskinesia appear, dose reduction or discontinuation should be considered.
  • Monitor for high blood sugar and diabetes.
  • Use with caution in the elderly.
  • Not generally recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor.

Contraindications:

Qutap is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to quetiapine or any of the excipients.

Drug Interactions:

Caution should be exercised when Qutap is taken with other medications that are known to cause electrolyte imbalance or increase the QT interval. The clearance of quetiapine may be increased when taken with certain drugs like thioridazine, carbamazepine, and phenytoin, potentially requiring dose adjustments of Qutap.

Storage:

Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
