Rabnil 20 

Presentation: Rabnil 20 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, contains Rabeprazole Sodium 20 mg as enteric-coated tablets. The tablets are usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Rabnil (Rabeprazole) is indicated for the treatment of:  

  • Active duodenal ulcer  
  • Active benign gastric ulcer  
  • Symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)  
  • Long-term management of GERD (GERD Maintenance)
  • Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe GERD  
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome  
  • In combination with appropriate antibacterial therapeutic regimens for the eradication of Helicobacter pyloriin patients with peptic ulcerdisease.
  • Prevention or treatment of NSAID-induced ulcers.

Dosage and Administration: Rabnil 20mg tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed. For most indications, it is recommended to take Rabnil once daily in the morning, before eating.

  • Active Duodenal Ulcer and Active Benign Gastric Ulcer: The recommended oral dose is 20 mg once daily in the morning for 4 weeks for duodenal ulcer and 6 weeks for benign gastric ulcer. Some patients may require additional weeks of therapy.
  • Erosive or Ulcerative Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): The recommended oral dose is 20 mg once daily for four to eight weeks. An additional 8-week course may be considered if healing is not complete.
  • GERD Maintenance: The maintenance dose is 10 mg or 20 mg once daily depending on patient response.
  • Symptomatic GERD: 10 mg once daily in patients without oesophagitis. If symptoms do not resolve within four weeks, further investigation is needed. Once symptoms resolve, subsequent control can be achieved with an on-demand regimen of 10 mg once daily when needed.
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: The recommended adult starting dose is 60 mg once a day, which may be adjusted up to 120 mg/day based on individual needs. Doses up to 100 mg once daily or 60 mg twice daily have been used.
  • Eradication of H. pylori: The recommended regimen is Rabeprazole 20 mg twice daily, amoxicillin 1000 mg twice daily, and clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily for 7 days.
  • Prevention or treatment of NSAID-induced ulcers: 20 mg once daily.

Side Effects: Rabnil (Rabeprazole) is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, increased or decreased appetite, muscle pain, drowsiness, and dizziness. Less common side effects may include mouth sores, difficulty sleeping, flatulence, aches or back pain, and polyps in the stomach. Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency.

Precautions: Rabnil (Rabeprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Rabeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), or any excipients in the formulation. Gastric malignancy should be ruled out before initiating therapy. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver disease and during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor before use. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as Rabeprazole can interact with certain drugs, such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, atazanavir, and methotrexate.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
