Radiglip 50

Presentation: Each tablet contains 50 mg of Vildagliptin. Available in strips of 10 tablets.

Indications: Radiglip 50 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, including metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, and insulin.  

Dosage and Administration:

  • The recommended dose of Vildagliptin is 50 mg once or twice daily.
  • When used in combination with a sulfonylurea, the recommended dose is 50 mg once daily in the morning.
  • When used in combination with metformin, a thiazolidinedione, or insulin, the recommended dose is 50 mg twice daily (one tablet in the morning and one tablet in the evening).
  • For patients with mild renal impairment (CrCl ≥ 50 mL/min), no dosage adjustment is required.
  • For patients with moderate or severe renal impairment (CrCl < 50 mL/min) or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis, the recommended dose is 50 mg once daily.
  • Radiglip 50 can be taken with or without food.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Nasopharyngitis (common cold)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea  

When used in combination with other antidiabetic agents, additional side effects may occur:

  • With sulfonylureas: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), tremor, headache, weakness.
  • With metformin: Headache, tremor.
  • With thiazolidinediones: Peripheral edema, weight gain.
  • With insulin: Hypoglycemia.

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or heart failure.
  • Vildagliptin is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Caution should be exercised when Radiglip 50 is used in combination with a sulfonylurea or insulin due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia. Dose reduction of the sulfonylurea or insulin may be necessary. 
  • There have been rare reports of hepatic dysfunction (liver problems) with Vildagliptin. Liver function tests may be recommended before starting and periodically during treatment.
  • The safety of Radiglip 50 during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use. 
  • It is not known if Vildagliptin passes into breast milk. Caution should be exercised when Radiglip 50 is administered to a breastfeeding woman.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
