Radizid 80

Presentation: Tablets containing 80 mg of gliclazide.

Indications: Radizid 80 is an oral antidiabetic drug belonging to the sulfonylurea class. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 40-80 mg daily. The dosage may be adjusted gradually by your doctor based on your blood glucose response, usually at intervals of 1-2 weeks. The maximum recommended daily dose is typically 320 mg, which may be given as a single dose or in divided doses. Radizid 80 tablets should be taken orally, preferably with meals, to help regulate blood glucose levels and minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully regarding the dose and timing of administration.

Side Effects: The most common side effect of gliclazide is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include sweating, shakiness, confusion, dizziness, hunger, and rapid heartbeat. Other possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting, and allergic skin reactions. Less common but potentially serious side effects may occur. Report any persistent or troublesome side effects to your doctor immediately.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially kidney disease, liver disease, or heart problems. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with impaired kidney or liver function.
• Radizid 80 should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. 
• Caution is advised when using Radizid 80 in combination with other antidiabetic medications, especially insulin, due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia. Dose adjustments of concomitant insulin or other antidiabetic drugs may be necessary.
• Be aware of factors that may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, such as skipping meals, strenuous exercise, or alcohol consumption.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as gliclazide may not be suitable in these situations.
• Be aware of potential drug interactions and inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
• Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential during treatment with Radizid 80.
