Ralect 0.5 Tablet contains 0.5 mg of Rasagiline as its active ingredient.
Indications: Ralect is indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson's diseaseas initial monotherapy and as adjunct therapy to dopamine agonists or to levodopa.
Dosage and Administration:
- Monotherapy: The recommended dose is 1 mg orally once daily. Some sources indicate a starting dose of 0.5 mg once daily, which may be increased to 1 mg once daily if needed.
- Adjunct therapy (without Levodopa): The recommended dose is 1 mg once daily.
- Adjunct therapy (with Levodopa): The recommended initial dose is 0.5 mg once daily. If tolerated and a sufficient response isn't achieved, it may be increased to 1 mg once daily. A reduction of the levodopa dose may be considered based on individual response.
Ralect can be taken with or without food. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include:
- Dizziness
- Spinning sensation
- Joint pain
- Headache
- Heartburn
- Nausea
- Muscle pain
- Insomnia (difficulty sleeping)
- Indigestion
- Flu-like symptoms
- Depression
- Cough
- Peripheral edema
Precautions:
- Concomitant use with meperidine, tramadol, methadone, propoxyphene, and MAO inhibitors (including other selective MAO-B inhibitors) is contraindicated due to the risk of serotonin syndrome.
- Use with caution with dextromethorphan and antidepressants.
- May exacerbate hypertension; blood pressure should be monitored.
- Use with caution in patients with mild hepatic impairment, and the dose should not exceed 0.5 mg once daily if taking concomitant Ciprofloxacin or other CYP1A2 inhibitors.
- Exercise caution in patients with a history of skin cancer.
- Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as Ralect may cause dizziness or sleepiness.
- Avoid sudden discontinuation of the medication.
- As a precaution, avoid foods high in tyramine (e.g., aged cheeses, air-dried meat, soy sauce, tap/draft beer).
- Inform your doctor if you experience any unusual changes in mood, hallucinations, or compulsive behaviors.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Ralect should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus (Pregnancy Category C). Caution should be exercised when2administering to a breastfeeding woman.
Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
