Indications: Refla, containing deflazacort, is a glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It is indicated for the treatment of various conditions such as inflammatory and allergic disorders, autoimmune diseases, and certain types of nephrotic syndrome. The specific indications depend on the clinical assessment.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly variable and individualized according to the disease being treated, its severity, and the patient's response. Initial dosages may range from 6 to 90 mg per day, depending on the condition. Maintenance doses are usually lower. May be administered orally, usually as a single daily dose or in divided doses. Follow physician's specific instructions. Gradual withdrawal is usually recommended following prolonged therapy.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, elevated blood pressure, mood changes, insomnia, acne, increased hair growth, thinning of the skin, easy bruising, impaired wound healing, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, increased intraocular pressure, cataracts, hyperglycemia, and increased susceptibility to infections. Compared to other corticosteroids, deflazacort may have a lower incidence of some side effects, such as weight gain and hypertension, but this can vary.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychiatric disorders, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart failure, renal insufficiency, epilepsy, tuberculosis, ocular herpes simplex, and systemic fungal infections. Live or live-attenuated vaccines should generally not be administered to patients on immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids. Deflazacort can interact with other medications. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered.
