Renova 60ml Suspension typically contains Paracetamol as its active ingredient, with a strength of 120mg/5ml. It is available in a 60ml bottle.  

Indications:

Renova Suspension is used in children for the relief of mild to moderate pain and fever associated with conditions such as:  

  • Common cold and influenza  
  • Headache
  • Toothache
  • Earache
  • Body ache
  • Muscle pain (myalgia)
  • Nerve pain (neuralgia)  
  • Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhoea)  
  • Sprains
  • Colic pain
  • Back pain
  • Post-operative pain  
  • Post-partum pain  
  • Pain and fever after vaccination  
  • Rheumatic and osteoarthritic pain and stiffness of joints  

Pharmacology:

Paracetamol, the active ingredient in Renova, acts as an analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer).It is thought to work primarily in the central nervous system by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals involved in pain and fever.  

Dosage and Administration:

The dosage of Renova Suspension for children is usually based on their body weight. The typical recommendations are:

  • Children under 3 months: 10 mg/kg body weight (reduce to 5 mg/kg if jaundiced) 3 to 4 times daily.
  • Children 3 months to below 1 year: ÂŊ to 1 teaspoonful (2.5 - 5 ml) 3 to 4 times daily.
  • Children 1-5 years: 1 - 2 teaspoonfuls (5 - 10 ml) 3 to 4 times daily.
  • Children 6-12 years: 2 - 4 teaspoonfuls (10 - 20 ml) 3 to 4 times daily.

Always follow your doctor's prescription or the instructions on the product packaging. Shake the bottle well before each use.

Side Effects:

Side effects of paracetamol at recommended doses are usually mild and rare. However, some individuals may experience:

  • Allergic reactions (skin rash, itching)  
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rarely, blood disorders like thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, and pancytopenia may occur.  

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor if your child has any liver or kidney problems.
  • Use with caution in patients with chronic alcoholism.
  • Avoid taking other paracetamol-containing products concurrently to prevent overdose.  
  • Consult your doctor if fever persists for more than 3 days or pain for more than 5 days.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Renova (Paracetamol) is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding when used as directed. However, it's always best to consult a doctor before using any medication during these times.   

Drug Interactions:

Paracetamol can interact with certain medications, including:

  • Barbiturates
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Alcohol (may increase the risk of liver toxicity)  
  • Anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine)
  • Warfarin (blood-thinning effect may be increased with prolonged use)

Inform your doctor about all the medications your child is taking.

Storage:

Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
