Indications
Renovit is indicated for the treatment of conditions where there is a deficiency of B vitamins. It is used for various neurological disorders, including:
- Polyneuropathy of any origin: Such as diabetic or alcoholic neuropathies.
- Neuritis, Neuralgia, Cervical Syndrome, Shoulder-arm syndrome, Lumbago, and Sciatica.
- Myalgia, Intercostal neuralgia, Herpes Zoster, and Trigeminal Neuralgia.
- Supportive treatment for facial paresis.
Composition
- Tablet: Vitamin B1 (Thiamine Mononitrate) 100 mg, Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) 200 mg, Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) 200 mcg.
- Injection (3 ml ampoule): Vitamin B1 (Thiamine Hydrochloride) 100 mg, Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) 100 mg, Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) 1000 mcg.
Pharmacology
Renovit contains a combination of B vitamins that play key roles in bodily functions:
- Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): Converts carbohydrates, fatty acids, and amino acids into energy; promotes healthy nerves; strengthens the heart.
- Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): Helps form red blood cells (RBCs), manufactures neurotransmitters like serotonin, and helps prevent cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
- Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin): Essential for cell replication and RBC production, prevents anemia, and helps reduce nerve pain and numbness. These vitamins are well-absorbed orally, widely distributed in tissues, and excreted in urine.
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: 1-3 tablets per day, or as advised by a physician.
- Injection (Intramuscularly):
- Severe (acute) cases: 1 injection daily until acute symptoms subside.
- Mild cases: 1 injection 2-3 times per week.
- Children: There is no information on the use of this drug in children.
Interaction
No drug interactions have been reported.
Contraindications
Renovit is contraindicated in:
- Patients on levodopa therapy.
- Patients with hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Side Effects
Generally well-tolerated, but allergic reactions may be observed in a few cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The oral tablet form is recommended. However, due to the presence of benzyl alcohol, the injection is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
- Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12): Should not be given to patients with subacute degeneration of the spinal cord. It is also not a suitable form of Vitamin B12 for treating optic neuropathies associated with high plasma concentrations of cyanocobalamin.
Overdose Effects
No overdose symptoms are expected at the recommended dosage. In case of a known overdose, treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
