  • Presentation:
    • Each tablet contains 25 mg of Sertraline Hydrochloride.

       

  • Indications:  
    • Major depressive disorder (MDD)  
    • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)  
    • Panic disorder (PD)  
    • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)  
    • Social anxiety disorder (SAD)  
    • Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)  

       

  • Dosage and Administration:  
    • Major depressive disorder:  
      • Starting Dose: 50 mg.  
      • Therapeutic Range: 50-200 mg.  
    • Obsessive-compulsive disorder:  
      • Starting Dose: 50 mg.  
      • Therapeutic Range: 50-200 mg.  
    • Panic disorder, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Social anxiety disorder:  
      • Starting Dose: 25 mg.  
      • Therapeutic Range: 50-200 mg.  
    • Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD): Starting dosage is 50 mg/day, administered either continuously or intermittently (starting 14 days prior to anticipated menstruation and continuing through onset of menses).

       

  • Pharmacology:
    • Sertraline selectively inhibits CNS neuronal reuptake of 5-HT (serotonin), increasing serotonin concentrations at the synaptic clefts and enhancing its activity at postsynaptic receptors, leading to improvement in depression.
    • Its prolonged elimination half-life allows for once-daily administration.

       

  • Side Effects:

  • Precautions:
    • Use with caution in patients with liver problems, kidney diseases, seizures, heart problems, and allergies.  
    • May cause dizziness or drowsiness; use caution while driving or operating machinery.   
    • Exercise caution in elderly patients as they may be more sensitive to the drug's effects.
    • Do not take if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last five weeks.
    • May increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior, especially in children, adolescents, and young adults (close monitoring is required, particularly during the initial weeks of treatment and after dose changes).
    • Sertraline is tightly bound to plasma proteins; use caution when administering with other highly protein-bound drugs (e.g., warfarin, digitoxin) as it may cause shifts in plasma concentrations.
    • May interact with drugs such as cimetidine, CNS-active drugs (e.g., diazepam), hypoglycemic drugs, atenolol, etc.

       

  • Contraindications:
    • Known hypersensitivity to sertraline or any excipients.
    • Not recommended in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment.

       

  • Pregnancy & Lactation:
    • While animal studies showed no evidence of teratogenicity, the safety of sertraline during human pregnancy has not been established.
    • Sertraline is excreted in breast milk; its effects on nursing infants are unknown. Consider discontinuing breastfeeding if sertraline treatment is necessary.

       

  • Storage Conditions:
    • Do not store above 30°C.
    • Keep out of the reach of children.
