Riboflavin (Desh Pharmaceuticals)

Presentation: Tablets containing Riboflavin BP 5 mg. Available in strips, manufactured by Desh Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: For the prevention and treatment of Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) deficiency, including conditions such as cheilosis (cracked lips), angular stomatitis (sores at the corners of the mouth), glossitis (inflammation of the tongue), keratitis (inflammation of the cornea), and seborrheic dermatitis. May also be used in combination with other B vitamins. Some evidence suggests potential use in preventing migraine headaches and cataracts.

Dosage and Administration:

• For treating Riboflavin deficiency in adults: 5-30 mg daily in divided doses.
• For preventing migraine headaches: 400 mg daily. It may take up to three months for best results.
• For preventing cataracts: A daily dietary intake of approximately 2.6 mg has been used. A combination of 3 mg Riboflavin plus 40 mg niacin daily has also been used.
• The daily recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) vary by age. Take with food for better absorption. Follow the physician's instructions.

Side Effects: Riboflavin is generally considered safe. High doses may cause the urine to turn a yellow-orange color, which is harmless. Less common side effects with high doses may include diarrhea and increased urination.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Riboflavin. No specific warnings or precautions have been established as Riboflavin is considered non-toxic. However, it's always wise to inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions or medications you are taking. Riboflavin may interact with certain medications like anticholinergic drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, phenobarbital, and probenecid.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
