Risdon 4

Generic Name: Risperidone

Presentation: Each tablet contains 4 mg Risperidone.

Indications: Treatment of schizophrenia (a mental disorder with hallucinations, delusions, and thought disturbances). Treatment of manic episodes in bipolar disorder (extremely elevated mood and energy). May also be used for irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents.

Dosage & Administration: The usual starting dose for schizophrenia in adults is typically 2 mg per day, which may be increased gradually by your doctor. For mania in bipolar disorder, the usual starting dose is also 2 mg once daily. Dosage adjustments are made by the doctor based on individual response and tolerability, with a usual range of 4-6 mg daily. It can be taken once or twice daily, with or without food. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, movement problems (such as muscle stiffness, tremors, restlessness), weight gain, increased appetite, and fatigue. Less common side effects can include anxiety, blurred vision, constipation, nausea, and increased saliva production. Serious but rare side effects can occur, including neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled muscle movements), high blood sugar, and allergic reactions.

Precautions: Inform your doctor about any pre-existing heart conditions, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, history of seizures, or any allergies. Use caution with alcohol and other medications that can cause drowsiness. Risperidone can cause dizziness and drowsiness, so use caution while driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. It may also affect body temperature regulation.
