Rivacap 1.5

Presentation: Each capsule contains Rivastigmine Tartrate USP equivalent to Rivastigmine 1.5 mg.

Indications: Rivacap is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's dementia. It is also used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderately severe dementia in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease.

Dosage and Administration: The initial dose is 1.5 mg twice a day, taken with food (morning and evening). If this dose is well tolerated after a minimum of two weeks of treatment, the dose may be increased to 3 mg twice a day. Subsequent increases to 4.5 mg and then 6 mg twice a day should also be based on good tolerability of thecurrent dose and may be considered after a minimum of two weeks of treatment at that dose level. The effective maintenance dose is 3 mg to 6 mg twice a day; patients should be maintained on their highest well-tolerated dose for maximum therapeutic benefit. The maximum recommended daily dose is 6 mg twice a day. If treatment is interrupted for more than several days, it should be re-initiated at 1.5 mg twice daily, and the dosage should then be titrated as described above. Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: The most commonly reported adverse reactions are gastrointestinal, including nausea and vomiting, particularly during the dose titration period. Other common side effects may include diarrhea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and fatigue.

Precautions: Rivacap should be used with caution in patients with sick sinus syndrome or conduction defects, respiratory diseases (e.g., asthma, obstructive pulmonary disease), a history of peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding, and a history of seizures. Cholinergic stimulation may increase gastric acid secretion. Caution is recommended when selecting anaesthetic agents as Rivastigmine, as a cholinesterase inhibitor, may exaggerate the effects of succinylcholine-type muscle relaxants during anaesthesia. Monitor body weight. Due to increased exposure in patients with moderate renal and mild to moderate hepatic impairment, dosing should be carefully titrated according to individual tolerability. Rivacap is not recommended for use in children.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
