Indications

Rostil SR (Mebeverine Hydrochloride) is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of:

• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Chronic irritable colon
• Spastic constipation
• Mucous colitis
• Colicky abdominal pain
• Persistent non-specific diarrhea

Description

Rostil SR is a musculotropic antispasmodic agent. It relieves cramps and spasms of the stomach and intestines by directly relaxing the smooth muscles of the gut, helping to restore normal bowel movement. It is particularly useful for treating conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Dosage & Administration

• Adults, elderly, and children over 10 years:
  • Mebeverine Hydrochloride 135 mg tablet: One tablet three times daily.
  • Mebeverine Hydrochloride 200 mg capsule: One capsule two times daily.
• For best results, it should be taken 20 minutes before meals.
• After the desired effect is achieved (usually after several weeks), the dosage may be gradually reduced.
• Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
• Children: Not recommended for children under 10 years of age.

Contraindications

Rostil SR is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its ingredients.

Side Effects

Rostil SR is generally well-tolerated. However, rare side effects such as skin rash, urticaria (hives), and angioedema (swelling) may occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: While animal studies have shown no teratogenicity, the usual precautions for administering any drug during pregnancy should be taken.
• Lactation: Mebeverine does not appear to be excreted in breast milk at therapeutic doses.

Precautions & Warnings

Caution should be exercised in patients with porphyria or a history of allergic reactions to this or similar medicines.

Overdose Effects

In case of an overdose, central nervous system (CNS) excitability may occur. No specific antidote is known; gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are recommended.

Rostil SR is classified as an anticholinergic.
