Secrin 4

Presentation: Each tablet contains 4 mg of glimepiride. 

Indications: Secrin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to lower blood glucose in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus whose hyperglycemia cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. It may be used concomitantly with metformin or insulin when diet, exercise, and Secrin alone do not result in adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 1 mg or 2 mg once daily, administered with breakfast or the first main meal. The maximum starting dose should not be more than 2 mg. The usual maintenance dose is 1 to 4 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose is 8 mg once daily. Dosage increases should be made in increments of no more than 2 mg at 1-2 week intervals based upon the patient's blood glucose response.  

Side Effects: The most common side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Other possible side effects include nausea, headache, dizziness, and weakness. Less common side effects may include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and allergic skin reactions.

Precautions: Secrin is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to glimepiride or other sulfonylureas or sulfonamides. Caution should be exercised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment and elderly patients. Regular blood glucose monitoring is necessary. Alcohol consumption should be avoided.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
