Sedil 5

Presentation: Each tablet of Sedil 5 contains Diazepam BP 5 mg. Available in strips or blister packs, with the number of tablets per pack determined by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC in Bangladesh.

Indications: Sedil (Diazepam) is indicated for the short-term treatment of mild to moderate anxiety, excitation, agitation, fear, and aggressiveness. It is also used for anxiety reactions due to stress, anxiety with somatic symptoms, acute alcohol withdrawal, status epilepticus, premedication for surgical procedures, febrile convulsions, and insomnia in hospitalized patients.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage should be individualized.

• Anxiety: 2 mg three times daily, may be increased to 15-30 mg daily in divided doses if necessary. Elderly or debilitated patients should receive half the adult dose.
• Insomnia associated with anxiety: 5-15 mg at bedtime.
• Acute alcohol withdrawal:10 mg three or four times during the first 24 hours, reducing to 5 mg three or four times daily as needed.  

Administered orally. Concomitant intake with alcohol is not recommended.

Side Effects: Generally well tolerated. Higher doses may cause drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, confusion, and ataxia.

Precautions:Contraindicated in myasthenia gravis, pulmonary insufficiency, respiratory depression, and hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines.Prolonged use and abrupt withdrawal should be avoided. Use with caution in respiratory disease, muscle weakness, history of drug or alcohol abuse, and in hepatic or renal impairment. Avoid during the first trimester of pregnancy and, if possible, during lactation. May cause drowsiness; patients should exercise caution while driving or operating machinery.

Storage: Store in a cool (below 25°C) and dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
