Sergel MUPS 20 is a tablet containing 20 mg of Esomeprazole in a Multiple Unit Pellet System (MUPS) formulation. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Sergel MUPS 20 is manufactured by Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications:

Sergel MUPS 20 is indicated for the treatment of: 

• Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) 
• Risk reduction of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers 
• H. pylori eradication (in combination with antibiotics)
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion

Dosage and Administration:

The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the patient's age. Here are some general guidelines for adults and children over 12 years:

• Erosive Esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
• Maintenance of Healing of Erosive Esophagitis: 20 mg once daily.
• Symptomatic GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks; an additional 4 weeks may be considered if symptoms do not resolve.
• Risk Reduction of NSAID-Associated Gastric Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks.
• H. pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily for 7 days, along with Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin.
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 40-80 mg twice daily.

Administration:

• Sergel MUPS 20 tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid.
• The tablets should not be chewed or crushed.
• If required, the tablets can be dispersed in half a glass of non-carbonated water. Stir until the tablets disintegrate and drink the liquid with the pellets immediately or within 30 minutes. Rinse the glass with half a glass of water and drink. 
• It is recommended to take Sergel MUPS 20 at least one hour before a meal.

Important Considerations:

• Inform your doctor about any liver problems.
• Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures.
• Sergel MUPS 20 can interact with other medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
