Presentation: Silinor 50 is presented as film-coated tablets, each containing 50mg of sitagliptin (as sitagliptin phosphate monohydrate). The tablets are usually available in blister packs. The appearance (shape, color, markings) of the tablets may vary depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh (e.g., Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd.).
Indications:Silinor (sitagliptin) is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used:
Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of sitagliptin is usually 100 mg once daily. However, the 50 mg dose once or twice daily may be prescribed by your doctor based on your individual needs and kidney function. Silinor can be taken with or without food. It should be taken as directed by your doctor.
For patients with moderate renal insufficiency, the dose is usually 50 mg once daily. For severe renal insufficiency or end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis, the dose is 25 mg once daily. Follow your doctor's specific instructions carefully.
Side Effects:Common side effects reported with sitagliptin include upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis, and headache. When used in combination with other antidiabetic agents, the side effect profile may differ, with an increased risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when used with sulfonylureas or insulin.
Tell your doctor promptly if you experience any unusual or severe side effects, including symptoms of pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain), severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), or any signs of liver problems.
Precautions:Silinor (sitagliptin) is contraindicated in patients with a history of a serious hypersensitivity reaction to sitagliptin or any of the excipients.
Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment, heart failure, and a history of pancreatitis. When used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, a lower dose of these medications may be required to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia.
Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including herbal supplements, as there may be potential drug interactions.
The safety and efficacy of sitagliptin in children under 18 years have not been established.Use during pregnancy should only occur if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. It is not known if sitagliptin is excreted in human breast milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
Storage: Store Silinor tablets at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
