Sinazid 80

Presentation: Sinazid 80 tablets contain 80 mg of gliclazide.

Indications: Sinazid is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are not enough to control blood sugar levels. Gliclazide belongs to a group of medicines called sulfonylureas, which work by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose for adults is 40 to 80 mg daily. The dose can be gradually increased by your doctor up to a maximum of 320 mg daily, if needed. Higher doses may be divided and taken twice a day, according to the main meals. Sinazid 80 tablets should be taken orally, usually 30 minutes before a meal. It's important to follow your doctor's instructions on dosage and timing.

Side Effects: The most common side effect of Sinazid (gliclazide) is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms can include headache, intense hunger, nausea, vomiting, weariness, sleep disorders, restlessness, aggressiveness, poor concentration, reduced alertness and reaction time, depression, confusion, speech or visual disorders, tremor, sensory disturbances, dizziness, and others.

Other possible side effects may include:

  • Gastrointestinal issues like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, and constipation. Taking Sinazid with a meal may help reduce these effects.
  • Skin reactions such as rash, redness, itching, hives, blisters, and angioedema (swelling).
  • Blood disorders, including a decrease in blood cells (platelets, red and white blood cells), which can cause paleness, prolonged bleeding, bruising, sore throat, and fever.
  • Temporary visual disturbances, especially at the start of treatment.

Precautions: Sinazid is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Type 1 diabetes.
  • Diabetes associated with ketosis.
  • Hypersensitivity to gliclazide or other sulfonylureas or sulfonamides.
  • Diabetic patients undergoing surgery, after severe injury, or during infection.
  • Severe liver or kidney problems.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Caution should be exercised in elderly patients and those with liver or kidney impairment, and a lower starting dose with careful monitoring may be needed. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

Storage: Store Sinazid 80 tablets in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
