Indications: Sinjard is indicated in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control as:
Dosage and Administration: The recommended starting dose of Sinjard is 10 mg once daily. In patients tolerating empagliflozin 10 mg once daily who have an eGFR ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m² and need additional glycemic control, the dose can be increased to 25 mg once daily. The maximum daily dose is 25 mg. Sinjard can be taken with or without food at any time of the day.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include urinary tract infections, genital mycotic infections, increased urination, thirst, and nausea. Hypoglycemia may occur when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Precautions: Sinjard is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), end-stage renal disease, or dialysis. It is not recommended for use in patients with moderate renal impairment (eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m²) for glycemic control. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of urinary tract infections or genital mycotic infections. Assess renal function prior to initiation and periodically thereafter.
