Sitagil 100

Presentation: Each tablet contains 100 mg of sitagliptin (as sitagliptin phosphate monohydrate).

Indications: Sitagil is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapy in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone and for whom metformin is inappropriate due to contraindications or intolerance. It can also be used in combination with other glucose-lowering agents, including metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, and insulin.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose is 100 mg taken orally once daily. It can be taken with or without food. In patients with mild renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≥45 mL/min), no dosage adjustment is required. For patients with moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≥30 to <45 mL/min), the dose is 50 mg once daily. In patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min) or with end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, the dose is 25 mg once daily. Sitagliptin should be administered after hemodialysis.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include headache, upper respiratory tract infection, and nasopharyngitis. When used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia. Other possible side effects include nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Rare but serious side effects may include pancreatitis, severe allergic reactions, and severe skin reactions.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Patients should be monitored for signs and symptoms of pancreatitis. Dosage adjustment is required in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment. Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus or infant. When used in combination with insulin or a sulfonylurea, a lower dose of insulin or sulfonylurea may be required to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
