Sodal 200ml 

Presentation: Sodal, available in Bangladesh in a 200ml bottle, is an oral suspension containing Sodium Alginate 500 mg and Potassium Bicarbonate 100 mg per 5 ml. It is usually available in a palatable, flavored base.

Indications:Sodal is indicated for the treatment of symptoms resulting from the reflux of acid, bile, and pepsin into theesophagus. These symptoms include:

• Acid regurgitation
• Heartburn
• Indigestion, such as after gastric surgery or due to hiatus hernia
• Heartburn during pregnancy
• Reflux esophagitis, including its symptoms Sodal can also be used to manage symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux during or after withdrawal of acid-suppressing therapy.

Dosage and Administration:Sodal oral solution is for oral administration.The usual doses are:

• Adults and children over 12 years: 5-10 ml (1-2 teaspoonfuls) three to four times daily, after meals and before bedtime.
• Children 2-12 years: 2.5-5 ml (½-1 teaspoonful) three to four times daily, after meals and before bedtime.
• Not recommended for children under 2 years of age.
• Elderly: No dose modifications are typically necessary.
• Renal Insufficiency: Caution should be exercised if a highly restricted salt diet is necessary due to the potassium and sodium content.

A time interval of 2 hours should be considered between the intake of Sodal and the administration of other medicinal products, especially tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, thyroid hormones, chloroquine, bisphosphonates, and estramustine.  

Side Effects: In addition to the desired effects, some side effects may occur, such as:

• Nausea
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Headache A sensation of swelling may occur if too large a dose has been taken.If these side effects persist or worsen, consult a physician.

Precautions: Sodal is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sodium alginate or potassium bicarbonate. It should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment and congestive cardiac failure. Care should be taken in treating patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium-containing renal calculi. There is a possibility of reduced efficacy in patients with very low levels of gastric acid. If symptoms do not improve after seven days, the clinical situation should be reviewed.  

Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Sodal can be used during pregnancy if clinically needed. No known effects on breastfed infants have been reported, and it can be used during breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
