Sodiclor 300

Presentation:Tablets containing 300 mg of sodium chloride.Sodium chloride is an electrolyte supplement.The tablets are intended for oral administration and are usually swallowed whole with water. The appearance may vary depending on the manufacturer and what is available in Bangladesh.

Indications: Sodiclor 300 is indicated for the treatment and prevention of sodium deficiency (hyponatremia). Sodium is an essential electrolyte that plays a crucial role in fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle contraction.Sodium deficiency can occur due to excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, kidney problems, or the use of certain medications.Sodiclor 300 helps to replenish sodium levels in the body. It may also be used to control muscle cramps during routine maintenance hemodialysis.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage will be determined by a physician based on the severity of the sodium deficiency and the individual patient's needs. It is crucial to follow the doctor's instructions precisely. The tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of water and not chewed.

• Adults:For prophylaxis, the usual dose is 8-16 tablets per day.For treatment, the dosage is adjusted to individual needs, up to a maximum of 40 tablets per day in severe salt depletion. For control of muscle cramps during routine maintenance hemodialysis, the usual dose is 20-32 tablets per dialysis. In some cases of chronic renal salt-wasting, up to 40 tablets per day may be required with appropriate fluid intake. 
• Children:Dosage should be adjusted to individual needs. 
• Elderly:No special dosage adjustmentis usually required.

Regular monitoring of serum electrolyte levels is usually required during treatment.

Side Effects:No side effects have been reported with Sodiclor 300 mg tablet at the recommended dosage.However, excessive intake of sodium chloride can lead to hypernatremia (high sodium levels), which may cause symptoms such as restlessness, weakness, thirst, reduced salivation and lacrimation, swollen tongue, flushing of the skin, pyrexia, dizziness, headache, oliguria, hypertension, tachycardia, delirium, hyperpnea, and respiratory arrest.

Precautions:Sodiclor 300 is contraindicated in any situation where salt retention is undesirable, such as edema, heart disease, cardiac decompensation, and primary or secondary aldosteronism, or where therapy is being given to produce salt and waterloss.Use with caution in hypertensive patients with chronic renal failure as it may impair the efficacy of antihypertensive drugs.  

Storage:Store below 30°C in a dry place protected from light.Keep out of reach of children.
