Sodinate 600

Presentation: Tablets containing 600 mg of sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate is an antacid and electrolyte replenisher. The tablets are intended for oral administration. 

Indications: Sodinate 600 is indicated for the relief of heartburn and acid indigestion. It works by neutralizing excess stomach acid. It may also be used to treat metabolic acidosis (a condition where there is too much acid in the body) and to alkalinize the urine, which can help in certain conditions like the excretion of some drugs or in the management of uric acid kidney stones. It can also be used as an electrolyte replenisher in certain situations.

Dosage and Administration: For the relief of heartburn and acid indigestion in adults, the usual dose is one or two tablets dissolved in a glass of water every 2 to 3 hours as needed, or as directed by a physician. The maximum daily dose should not be exceeded. For other indications, the dosage will be determined by a physician based on the specific condition and the patient's needs. Sodinate 600 tablets should be dissolved completely in water before ingestion.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include belching and flatulence due to the release of carbon dioxide. Excessive or prolonged use can lead to systemic alkalosis (a condition where the body has too much alkali), which may cause irritability, muscle twitching, and slow, shallow breathing. Sodium overload and fluid retention may also occur, especially in individuals with kidney or heart problems.

Precautions: Sodinate 600 is contraindicated in patients with metabolic or respiratory alkalosis, hypocalcemia, and in patients with sodium-restricted diets unless under strict medical supervision. Use with caution in patients with heart failure, kidney disease, high blood pressure, or edema, as it contains sodium. It can interact with certain medications by affecting their absorption or excretion. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, especially enteric-coated medications, as sodium bicarbonate can cause them to dissolve prematurely. Prolonged use is not recommended without medical advice.
