How Solo 0.9% Works (Pharmacology)

The primary function of Sodium Chloride 0.9% is to provide a balanced saline solution:

• Nasal Use: As an isotonic saline solution, it moisturizes dry nasal membranes, dissolves and softens thick or crusty mucus, and helps to clear nasal passages, making breathing easier.
• Intravenous Use: As an IV solution, it is used to manage metabolic alkalosis, correct fluid loss (e.g., from gastroenteritis), and as a diluent for other medications. It helps to restore the body's electrolyte balance.
• Excretion: Excess sodium is predominantly excreted by the kidneys.
