Solupred 16 

Presentation: Solupred 16 Tablet contains Methylprednisolone 16 mg as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. It is presented as a tablet for oral administration and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Solupred is a corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of conditions where its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant effects are desired, including:

• Endocrine Disorders:Primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, hypercalcemia associated withcancer. 
• Rheumatic Disorders:Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acutegouty arthritis.
• Collagen Diseases: Systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic dermatomyositis.
• Dermatologic Diseases: Severe psoriasis, bullous dermatitis herpetiformis, severe erythema multiforme.
• Allergic States: Severe allergic reactions, seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis, contact dermatitis, bronchial asthma.
• Ophthalmic Diseases: Allergic corneal ulcers, keratitis, optic neuritis.
• Respiratory Diseases: Symptomatic sarcoidosis, aspiration pneumonitis.
• Hematologic Disorders: Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, acquired hemolytic anemia.
• Gastrointestinal Diseases: Ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis (for acute episodes).
• Nervous System: Acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis.
• Neoplastic Diseases: For palliative management of certain leukemias and lymphomas.

Methylprednisolone works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the body's immune response.

Dosage and Administration: The initial dosage of Solupred 16 Tablet varies depending on the specific disease being treated and its severity, ranging from 4 mg to 48 mg per day. The dosage is determined by the physician and should be individualized based on the patient's response. It is usually taken orally with food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Dosage may be adjusted over time based on the patient's clinical response. If the drug is to be discontinued after long-term therapy, gradual withdrawal is recommended.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Solupred may include increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, mood changes, trouble sleeping, increased blood sugar levels, high blood pressure, and acne. Long-term use can lead to more serious side effects such as osteoporosis, cataracts, glaucoma, and adrenal suppression.

Precautions: Solupred is contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections and known hypersensitivity to methylprednisolone or any of its components. Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, heart failure, hypertension, glaucoma, peptic ulcer disease, osteoporosis, psychiatric disorders, and active infections. The use of Solupred during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered by a healthcare professional.

Storage: Store Solupred 16 tablets in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
