Solurin 5 

Presentation:Solurin 5 is available as tablets, each containing 5 mg of solifenacin succinate.Solurin is a product of Popular Pharmaceuticals Ltd.in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs of 30 tablets. The tablets are light yellow and round-shaped.  

Indications: Solurin (solifenacin succinate) is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of urge incontinence and/or increased urinary frequency and urgencyas may occur in patients with overactive bladder syndrome.  

Dosage and Administration:The recommended dose for adults, including the elderly, is 5 mg once daily.If needed, the dose may be increased to 10 mg once daily. Solurin tablets should be swallowed whole with liquids and can be taken with or without food.  

For patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≤ 30 ml/min) or moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score of 7 to 9), the dose should not exceed 5 mg once daily.Caution should be used in these patients.

The safety and effectiveness of Solurin in children have not yet been established and therefore, it should not be used in children.

Side Effects: Due to the pharmacological effect of solifenacin, Solurin may cause anticholinergic undesirable effects, which are generally mild to moderate. The frequency of these effects is dose-related. The most commonly reported adverse reaction is dry mouth.

Other common side effects may include:

  • Constipation  
  • Nausea  
  • Dyspepsia
  • Abdominal pain
  • Blurred vision  

Uncommon side effects may include:

  • Somnolence (drowsiness)  
  • Dysgeusia (taste disturbance)
  • Dry eyes
  • Fatigue  
  • Peripheral oedema (swelling of extremities)  
  • Nasal dryness
  • Dry skin
  • Difficulty in micturition (urination)  

Rare side effects may include urinary retention.Very rare side effects may include dizziness, headache, hallucinations, pruritus (itching), rash, urticaria (hives), and vomiting.  

Precautions: Solurin (solifenacin succinate) is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Hypersensitivity to solifenacin or any of the excipients.  
  • Urinary retention.  
  • Severe gastro-intestinal condition (including toxic megacolon).
  • Myasthenia gravis.
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma (uncontrolled).
  • Patients undergoing haemodialysis.
  • Severe hepatic impairment.
  • Severe renal impairment or moderate hepatic impairment who are also taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Caution should be taken in patients with:  

  • Clinically significant bladder outflow obstruction at risk of urinary retention.  
  • Gastrointestinal obstructive disorders.  
  • Risk of decreased gastrointestinal motility.  
  • Hiatus hernia/gastro-oesophageal reflux and/or who are concurrently taking medicinal products (such as bisphosphonates) that can cause or exacerbate oesophagitis.  
  • Autonomic neuropathy.
  • Known history of QT prolongation or risk factors for QT prolongation.

Concomitant use of potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir) should be avoided, or the maximum dose of Solurin should be limited to 5 mg daily.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:There are no adequate data from the use of solifenacin succinate in pregnant women.Caution should be exercised when prescribing Solurin to pregnant women. It is not known whether solifenacin is excreted in human milk; therefore, its use during breastfeeding is not recommended.  

Storage: Store below 30°C. Keep away from the reach of children.
