Sperdal 1 is a tablet containing 1 mg of Risperidone. It is manufactured by Synovia Pharma PLC in Bangladesh.
Indications:
Sperdal (Risperidone) is used to treat:
- Acute and chronic schizophrenic psychoses.
- Other psychotic conditions with positive symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, thought disturbances, hostility, suspiciousness) and/or negative symptoms (blunted affect, emotional and social withdrawal).
- Affective symptoms (depression, guilt feelings, anxiety) associated with schizophrenia.
- Maintaining clinical improvement during continuation therapy in patients who have shown an initial treatment response.
- Mania in bipolar disorder.
- Irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents aged 5-16 years.
Dosage and Administration:
The dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response.
- Psychoses: Usually starts at 2 mg on the first day (in 1-2 divided doses), then 4 mg on the second day (in 1-2 divided doses). The usual dose range is 4-6 mg daily, with a maximum of 16 mg daily.
- Mania: Initially 2 mg once daily, which may be increased if necessary in steps of 1 mg daily, with a usual dose range of 1-6 mg daily.
- Schizophrenia in Adolescents (13-17 years): Initially 0.5 mg once daily, increased to 1 mg once or twice daily on the second day, with further dosage adjustments at intervals of at least 24 hours, in increments of 0.5 or 1 mg twice daily, as tolerated, to a usual dose range of 1 to 6 mg daily. Doses above 6 mg daily have not been studied.
- Elderly or patients with hepatic or renal impairment: The initial dose is usually 0.5 mg twice daily, increased gradually in steps of 0.5 mg twice daily.

Precautions:
Inform your doctor if you have a history of cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, kidney or liver impairment. Risperidone may increase the risk of tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements) and neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a rare but serious reaction). It may also affect blood sugar levels. Use caution while driving or operating machinery as it may cause drowsiness.
