Stemetil

Presentation: Each tablet contains Prochlorperazine Maleate equivalent to Prochlorperazine.

Indications: Stemetil is indicated for the relief of nausea and vomiting, including that associated with migraine, labyrinthine disorders, and radiation sickness. It is also used for the treatment of vertigo (dizziness) and for the short-term management of severe anxiety. In some cases, it may be used as adjunctive therapy in the management of psychotic disorders.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage is individualized and determined by the physician based on the condition being treated and the patient's response.

• Nausea and Vomiting:
  • Adults: The usual oral dose is 5 mg three times daily or 10 mg two to three times daily.
  • Children (5-12 years): Dosage is usually based on weight and should be determined by the physician.
• Vertigo: The usual adult dose is 5 mg three times daily.
• Anxiety (Short-Term): The usual adult dose is 5 mg orally three to four times a day, with a maximum dose of 20 mg per day. Treatment duration should typically not exceed 12 weeks.
• Psychotic Disorders: Higher doses may be used under close medical supervision.

Stemetil tablets are administered orally. Follow your physician's instructions carefully regarding the dose and timing of administration.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, dry mouth, and constipation. Less common side effects can include restlessness, muscle spasms, tremors, and skin rash. Rare but potentially serious side effects may include tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements) and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

Precautions: Inform your physician if you have a history of seizures, heart problems, liver disease, glaucoma, or prostate enlargement. Use caution with alcohol and other central nervous system depressants. Stemetil may cause drowsiness and impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid abrupt discontinuation of the medication. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to certain side effects. Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Stemetil can interact with other medications, including anticholinergics, antihistamines, certain antidepressants, and antipsychotics. Inform your physician about all medications you are currently taking.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
