Sugatrol 50
Presentation: Each tablet of Sugatrol 50 contains 50 mg of acarbose.
Indications:Sugatrol (acarbose) is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dosage is 25 mg three times daily, taken at the start (with the first bite) of each main meal. The dosage may be increased gradually every 4-8 weeks based on blood glucose monitoring and tolerance. The maintenance dosage is typically 50 mg to 100 mg three times daily. The maximum daily dose is 300 mg.
Side Effects: Common side effects are primarily gastrointestinal and may include flatulence, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. These side effects are often transient and may decrease with continued use. Elevated serum transaminases have also been reported.
Precautions:Sugatrol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to acarbose, diabetic ketoacidosis, cirrhosis, inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, partial intestinal obstruction or predispositionto intestinal obstruction,and chronic intestinal diseases associated with marked disorders of digestion or absorption.Caution should be exercised when Sugatrol is used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia. Blood glucose should be monitored regularly.
Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
