Surliv 150 

Presentation:Each film-coated tablet of Surliv 150 contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid BP 150 mg.Surliv 150 is a product of Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd.in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs containing 2 strips of 10 tablets each.  

Indications: Surliv (Ursodeoxycholic Acid) is indicated for:

  • Dissolution of radiolucent (non-opaque) cholesterol gallstones in patients with a functioning gallbladder when surgery is not preferred.  
  • Treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC).  
  • Management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
  • Management of viral hepatitis.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Surliv depends on the condition being treated and the patient's body weight. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, usually after a meal.

  • For dissolving gallstones:The usual dosage is 8-12 mg/kg/day, either as a single nighttime dose or in divided doses.Treatment may take several months, and gallstone dissolution should be confirmed by ultrasound.
  • For primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC): The usual dosage is 13-15 mg/kg/day in two to four divided doses.
  • For non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): The usual dosage is 13-15 mg/kg/day.
  • For acute viral hepatitis: The usual dosage is 600 mg/day.

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor. Regular liver function tests may be required during treatment.

Side Effects: Commonly reported side effects of Surliv (Ursodeoxycholic Acid) include:

  • Nausea  
  • Vomiting  
  • Diarrhoea  
  • Gallstone opacification
  • Pruritus (itching)

Less common side effects may include abdominal pain, hair loss, and rash. If diarrhoea occurs, the dose may need to be reduced; if it persists or if you find blood in your stools, inform your doctor.

Precautions: Surliv (Ursodeoxycholic Acid) is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Non-functioning gallbladder.
  • Calcified and pigmented gallstones.
  • Acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts.
  • Blockage of the bile ducts.  
  • Inflammatory bowel disease.

Caution should be exercised in patients with liver disease. Surliv should not be used with drugs that increase bile cholesterol, such as oestrogenic hormones. Concomitant administration with bile-acid binding drugs like cholestyramine, colestipol, activated charcoal, and aluminium-based antacids should be avoided as they may reduce the effectiveness of Surliv. A time interval of 2 hours should be observed between taking Surliv and these medications.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:Surliv is classified as Pregnancy Category B. No evidence of harm has been reported in pregnancy, and it has been used effectively for cholestasis of pregnancy during the last trimester.It is not known whether Ursodeoxycholic Acid is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when Surliv is administered to a nursing mother.

Storage: Store below 30°C temperature, away from light and wet places. Keep out of reach of children.
