Indication:

Syncapone is a combination medication used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Levodopa is converted to dopamine in the brain, helping to replace the dopamine lost due to the disease. Carbidopa helps prevent the breakdown of levodopa in the bloodstream, allowing more to reach the brain. Entacapone blocks an enzyme that breaks down dopamine in the brain, prolonging the effect of levodopa. This combination helps to improve motor symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, and slowness of movement.

Dosage and Administration:

The dosage of Syncapone is highly individualized and depends on the patient's previous levodopa dosage, the severity of their Parkinson's disease, and their response to treatment. Your doctor will determine the appropriate starting dose and adjust it as needed.

Syncapone tablets are taken orally and should be swallowed whole with water. They can be taken with or without food, but taking them with a low-protein meal may improve absorption in some individuals. Avoid taking Syncapone with high-protein meals as they can interfere with levodopa absorption.

It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions precisely regarding the dosage and timing of your Syncapone doses. Do not change your dose or stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include dyskinesia (involuntary movements), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, insomnia, confusion, hallucinations, and changes in urine color (darkening).

Less common but potentially serious side effects can include orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure upon standing), chest pain, irregular heartbeat, depression, psychosis, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a rare but severe reaction).

Precautions:

Inform your doctor about all your medical conditions, especially if you have heart disease, lung disease, liver disease, kidney disease, glaucoma, a history of melanoma, or any psychiatric disorders.

Syncapone can cause or worsen dyskinesia. Your doctor may need to adjust your dosage to manage this.

Drug Interactions:
