Tapazol 10 

Presentation: Each tablet of Tapazol 10 contains 10 mg of Methimazole. It is available in strips.The tablets have specific shapes and markings depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh (Renata Limited).

Indications:Tapazol (methimazole) is indicated for the treatment of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland), including Graves' disease and toxic multinodular goiter, in patients for whom surgery or radioactive iodine therapy is not appropriate.It can also be used to ameliorate symptoms of hyperthyroidism in preparation for thyroidectomy or radioactive iodine therapy.  

Dosage and Administration:  The total daily dosage is usually given in 3 divided doses at approximately 8-hour intervals.  

• Adults:The initial daily dosagefor hyperthyroidism is 15 mg for mild, 30 to 40 mg for moderately severe, and 60 mg for severe conditions, divided into three doses. The maintenance dosage is usually 5 to 15 mg daily.
• Follow your doctor's specific instructions. It is important to take this medication regularly at the same time(s) each day.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include skin rash, urticaria, nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, arthralgia, paresthesia, loss of taste, abnormal loss of hair, myalgia, headache, pruritus, drowsiness, neuritis, edema, vertigo, skin pigmentation, jaundice, sialadenopathy, and lymphadenopathy.Serious side effects, although less frequent, can include agranulocytosis, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, drug fever, lupus-like syndrome, hepatitis, and nephritis.

Precautions:Tapazol (methimazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components.It readily crosses placental membranes and can cause fetal harm, particularly in the first trimester of pregnancy. Patients should immediately report any symptoms suggestive of agranulocytosis, such as fever or sore throat. Liver toxicity and hypothyroidism can occur.

Storage: Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
