Telazine 5

Presentation: Each tablet contains 5 mg of Trifluoperazine Hydrochloride BP. 

Indications: Telazine 5 is indicated for the management of:

• Psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia.  
• Anxiety and tension, particularly when associated with psychotic features.
• Severe nausea and vomiting.

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and the individual patient's response. Always follow your doctor's instructions. 
• Adults (Psychotic Disorders): The usual starting dose is 5 mg twice daily. Dosage may be gradually increased by your doctor as needed, with a usual maintenance dose ranging from 15 to 20 mg daily.
• Adults (Anxiety and Tension):The usual dose is 1-2 mg twice daily. Treatment should generally not exceed 12 weeks at higher doses. 
• Adults (Nausea and Vomiting): The usual dose is 1-2 mg every 4-6 hours as needed, with a maximum daily dose of 6 mg.
• Telazine 5 tablets should be swallowed whole with water, with or without food.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness  
• Dizziness  
• Dry mouth  
• Blurred vision  
• Muscle stiffness or spasms  
• Tremors
• Restlessness  
• Weight gain  
• Constipation  

Less common but potentially serious side effects include tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements), neuroleptic malignant syndrome (fever, muscle rigidity, altered mental status), and changes in heart rhythm. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these severe side effects. 

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to trifluoperazine or other phenothiazine medications.
• Use with caution in patients with:
  • Heart problems  
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Epilepsy or other seizure disorders
  • Glaucoma  
  • Prostate enlargement
  • Parkinson's disease
• May cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you. 
• Avoid alcohol while taking Telazine 5 as it can increase drowsiness and other side effects.  
• The safety of Telazine 5 during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established.Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant,planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.  
• Use with caution in elderly patients who may be more susceptible to certain side effects.

Storage:

• Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
• Keep out of the reach of children.
