Thynor 50
Presentation: Each tablet of Thynor 50 contains 50 micrograms of levothyroxine sodium. Thynor 50 is available in blister packs containing a specific number of tablets. Please refer to the product packaging for exact details.
Indications: Thynor 50 is indicated as replacement therapy in hypothyroidism of any etiology. This includes congenital hypothyroidism, primary hypothyroidism (due to thyroid gland dysfunction), and secondary hypothyroidism (due to pituitary gland dysfunction). It is also used for the suppression of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) levels in the presence of goiters, nodules, and after surgical or radiological treatment of thyroid cancer. Additionally, it can be used to suppress the goitrogenic effects of certain drugs like lithium and as a diagnostic aid in TSH suppression tests.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Thynor 50 is highly individualized and depends on the patient's age, weight, the severity of the hypothyroidism, and the clinical response and thyroid hormone levels. Thynor 50 tablets should be taken orally once daily, preferably on an empty stomach, 30 minutes to one hour before breakfast, with a full glass of water.
Dosage adjustments should be made based on regular monitoring of thyroid function tests, primarily TSH and free T4 levels, and clinical assessment.
Side Effects: Side effects of Thynor 50 are usually associated with excessive dosage and resemble symptoms of hyperthyroidism. These may include palpitations, tachycardia, nervousness, irritability, insomnia, tremors, weight loss, increased appetite, heat intolerance, excessive sweating, diarrhea, and menstrual irregularities. Angina pectoris may be induced or aggravated, and arrhythmias may occur. Hair loss may also be experienced, particularly in children during the initial months of therapy.
Precautions: Thynor 50 is contraindicated in patients with untreated hyperthyroidism and uncorrected adrenal insufficiency. It should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, including angina, coronary artery disease, and hypertension,as well as in the elderly who may have underlying cardiac disease. Levothyroxine may increase the dosage requirements of insulin or other antidiabetic therapies. Care is needed in patients with diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus. Over-treatment with levothyroxine can lead to serious and even life-threatening toxicity.
Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
