Tibo

Presentation: Tibo is presented as tablets, each containing 2.5mg of tibolone. The tablets are usually available in blister packs. The appearance (shape, color) of the tablets may vary depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh (e.g., Popular Pharmaceuticals Ltd.).

Indications: Tibo (tibolone) is indicated for:

  • Treatment of symptoms resulting from the natural or surgical menopause in postmenopausal women, such as hot flushes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.
  • Prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are at high risk of fractures and cannot take other medicines used to prevent osteoporosis.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose is one tablet (2.5mg) once daily, swallowed with some water or other drink, preferably at the same time each day.

  • Starting Tibo: For natural menopause, commence at least 12 months after the last natural bleed. For surgical menopause, treatment may start immediately.
  • Switching from HRT: If changing from sequential HRT, start the day after completing the prior regimen. If changing from continuous-combined HRT, treatment can start at any time.
  • Missed dose: Take a missed dose as soon as remembered unless it is more than 12 hours overdue. In that case, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the normal time. Missing a dose may increase the likelihood of breakthrough bleeding and spotting.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include vaginal bleeding or spotting (mainly in the first few months), headache, weight gain, stomach pain, breast tenderness, unusual hair growth, and vaginal problems like discharge, itching, or irritation.

Less common side effects may include fluid retention, dizziness, rash, and depression.

Patients should report any persistent or troublesome side effects to their doctor.

Precautions: Tibo (tibolone) is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation, known or suspected hormone-dependent tumors (e.g., breast cancer, endometrial cancer), a history of blood clots (e.g., deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism), stroke or heart attack, and severe liver disease.

Caution should be exercised in patients with risk factors for thromboembolic disorders, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver problems, epilepsy, or migraine. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as some may interact with Tibo. Regular medical check-ups, including breast examinations, are recommended during treatment.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
