Ticstop 12.5 contains Tetrabenazine at a strength of 12.5mg per tablet.

Indications:

Ticstop (Tetrabenazine) is indicated for the treatment of chorea, which are involuntary, jerky movements associated with Huntington's disease. It works by decreasing the amount of certain natural substances in the brain (monoamines such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine)1 that can contribute to these movements.

Dosage and Administration:

The starting dose is usually 12.5 mg once daily. Your doctor will gradually increase the dose, typically at weekly intervals by 12.5 mg per day, to find the dose that best controls your chorea and is well-tolerated. The total daily dose and the number of times you take it per day will depend on your individual needs and response, with a maximum recommended single dose of 25 mg and a maximum daily dose that can go up to 100 mg for some individuals. Ticstop can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include drowsiness, fatigue, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), depression, anxiety, nausea, and akathisia (restlessness and an inability to stay still). Dizziness and lightheadedness can also occur.

Precautions:

Inform your doctor if you have a history of depression or suicidal thoughts, liver problems, or are taking certain other medications, especially MAO inhibitors or reserpine. Ticstop can cause or worsen depression and may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior. It can also cause drowsiness and dizziness, so caution should be used when driving or operating machinery. Avoid alcohol while taking Ticstop as it can increase sleepiness.
