Tofranil 25

Presentation: Each tablet contains 25 mg of Imipramine Hydrochloride. Available in strips of 10 tablets.

Indications: Tofranil 25 is indicated for the treatment of:

• Depression
• Childhood enuresis (bedwetting) in children aged 6 years and older (may be considered after exclusion of organic pathology)

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of the condition and the patient's response.
• Depression:
  • Adults: The usual initial dose is 25 mg three or four times daily. Dosage may be gradually increased as needed and tolerated, with a maximum daily dose of 200 mg. Maintenance doses usually range from 50 to 150 mg daily.
  • Elderly patients: The initial dose is usually lower, such as 10 mg three times daily, with gradual increases as tolerated.
• Childhood Enuresis: The initial daily dose is usually 25 mg, given one hour before bedtime. If there is no satisfactory response within one week, the dose may be increased to 50 mg nightly in children 6-12 years of age and up to 75 mg nightly in children over 12 years of age. The daily dose should not exceed 75 mg. Treatment duration should not exceed 3 months, and a drug-free period of at least 1 month should follow.

It is recommended to take Tofranil 25 as directed by your physician.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision
• Constipation
• Urinary retention
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Increased heart rate
• Tremor
• Weight gain
• Increased appetite

Less common but potentially serious side effects may include changes in heart rhythm, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, seizures, glaucoma, urinary retention, or prostate problems.
• Use with caution in elderly patients and those with liver or kidney disease.
• Tofranil 25 may interact with other medications, including MAO inhibitors. It should not be used in combination with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of discontinuing them.
• It may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery.
• Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Tofranil 25, as it can enhance the sedative effects.
• The safety of Tofranil 25 during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use.
• Imipramine passes into breast milk and may cause side effects in nursing infants. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended while taking Tofranil 25.

Storage: Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
