Presentation: Tablets containing Topiramate INN 50 mg.

Indications: Monotherapy in newly diagnosed epilepsy (adults and children ≥ 6 years) with generalized tonic-clonic or partial seizures. Adjunctive therapy in adults and children (≥ 2 years) with partial seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Prophylaxis of migraine headache in adults.

Dosage & Administration: Epilepsy monotherapy in adults and children ≥ 10 years: initially 25-50 mg daily, increase weekly by 25-50 mg to usual maintenance of 100-200 mg twice daily. Adjunctive therapy in adults: initially 25-50 mg daily, titrate to effective dose (200-400 mg daily in two divided doses). Adjunctive therapy in children (2-16 years): initially 1-3 mg/kg/day at night, increase weekly by 1-3 mg/kg/day (divided twice daily) to usual maintenance of 5-9 mg/kg/day. Migraine prophylaxis in adults: initially 25 mg nightly for 1 week, increase weekly by 25 mg/day (divided twice daily) to usual dose of 50 mg twice daily. Follow physician's instructions.

Side Effects: Common: paraesthesia, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, somnolence, nervousness, weight loss, speech disorder, difficulty concentrating, memory problems. Less common: confusion, depression, ataxia, nystagmus, visual disturbances.

Precautions: Renal or hepatic impairment, history of kidney stones, metabolic acidosis, pregnancy (potential harm to fetus), breastfeeding. May impair cognitive function and alertness. Avoid abrupt withdrawal.

Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
