Triwon

Presentation: Film-coated tablets. Available in strips. Manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Each tablet contains a combination of three active ingredients:

  • Ferrous Fumarate: An iron salt used to treat or prevent iron deficiency anemia. The amount of elemental iron varies depending on the strength.
  • Folic Acid: A B-vitamin essential for cell division and the formation of red blood cells. The strength is usually 0.5 mg or 1 mg per tablet.
  • Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate: A source of zinc, an essential mineral important for immune function, wound healing, and growth. The amount of elemental zinc varies depending on the strength.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anemia, folic acid deficiency, and zinc deficiency, especially during pregnancy and lactation, periods of rapid growth, and in cases of inadequate dietary intake or malabsorption.

Dosage and Administration: Adults: Usually one tablet once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the severity of the deficiency and individual needs. It is often recommended to take the tablet with food to minimize stomach upset, but avoid taking it with dairy products, tea, or coffee, as these can impair iron absorption.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, or diarrhea. Iron supplementation can also cause stools to become darker in color, which is normal.

Precautions:

  • Contraindicated in patients with hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, and other conditions of iron overload.
  • Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer disease, ulcerative colitis, or regional enteritis.
  • Folic acid should not be used to treat undiagnosed anemia, as it may mask the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Zinc can interact with certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, quinolones), penicillamine, and diuretics; separate administration times may be necessary.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including antacids, as they can affect the absorption of iron, folic acid, or zinc.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
