Tryptin 25

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Amitriptyline Hydrochloride BP 25 mg. Available in blister packs containing strips of tablets. The number of tablets per strip may vary depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh (e.g., Square Pharmaceuticals PLC).

Indications: Tryptin (Amitriptyline) is indicated for the treatment of depressive illness, particularly where sedation is required. It is also used for the prophylaxis of migraine, treatment of tension headaches, and management of chronic pain, including neuropathic pain. In some instances, it may be used for nocturnal enuresis in children.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Tryptin is individualized and should be determined by a registered medical practitioner.

  • Depression: For adults, the initial dose is usually 25 mg two times daily or 75 mg as a single dose at night. This may be increased gradually as needed, up to a maximum of 150-200 mg per day. Elderly and adolescents may start with lower doses, such as 10-25 mg daily.
  • Migraine Prophylaxis: The usual dose is 100 mg daily.
  • Chronic Pain: Dosage ranges from 10-75 mg daily, usually taken at night.
  • Nocturnal Enuresis (Children): For children aged 7-10 years, the dose is 10-20 mg at bedtime; for children aged 11-16 years, the dose is 25-50 mg at bedtime, with a maximum treatment period (including withdrawal) of 3 months.

Tryptin tablets are administered orally and are often taken at night due to their sedative effects. Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, increased heart rate, and weight gain. Other potential side effects can include confusion, difficulty urinating, increased sweating, and tremor. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to certain side effects.

Precautions: Tryptin is contraindicated in patients with recent myocardial infarction, arrhythmias (particularly heart block), mania, and severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of epilepsy, glaucoma, urinary retention, cardiac disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors is contraindicated. Alcohol and other CNS depressants should be used with caution due to potential additive sedative effects.

Storage: Store Tryptin 25 mg tablets in a cool and dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
